Badger Blade Welders Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Badger Blade Welder a real welder or just a welding jig?
It's a real butt welder that fuses the ends of the blade together, this is not a brazing jig.

Do I have to buy silver solder and flux?
No, you never have to buy expensive silver solder or flux.

How does the Badger Blade Welder compare to other blade butt welders?
It works as well as butt welders costing over $1,000 and better than the $400 imports.

What type of power source will I need?
An automotive battery from 250 cca to 450 cca is needed.

How many welds can I make before I have to recharge the battery?
About ten 1/4" blades or two 1/2" blades.

What type of blades can I weld with the Badger Blade Welder?
All metal and wood cutting blades from 1/8" to 3/4" including tri-metal and abrasive coated blades.

What else will I need to weld blades besides the Badger Blade Welder?
A new or used automotive battery from 250 to 450 cold cranking amps, a propane torch to anneal the blade after welding, and a file to check the hardness of the weld and file off the excess weld material.

How does welding compare to brazing?
Butt welding doesn't require expensive silver solder or flux. Butt welding and brazing both require a propane torch and file. Butt welding is faster, easier and requires less operator skill than brazing. Brazing a broken blade shortens the blade twice as much as butt welding.
